You can take all the "shootouts" and put them in one bucket and you won't have beans.

Wasn't talking about the 650 but the 'air-cooled' engine in ds650LP's post

Spoke with Engine Ice the other day about the proper procedure for flushing the radiator. They told me to try to get it as clean as possible but don't worry if it's not perfect. It's already diluted with water and a little residue will not affect the engine. This is from there website:

For racing applications, we actually recommend twice per year. The cleaner you can keep your cooling system and the fresher you can keep a fluid, the better it will perform. There are no special requirements for using Engine Ice. For any coolant and anytime you are changing coolant, we recommend a simple solution of distilled water and white distilled vinegar, both available at your local grocery store.

1. Mix the water/vinegar at 50/50
2. Fill system with the solution
3. Run engine until warm
4. Let cool
5. Drain
6. Run clear water through to rinse out vinegar.
7. Fill with coolant of choice.

This is the same as cleaning your coffee maker. The vinegar is acidic enough to clean out and contaminants and residual coolants, yet it won’t harm your seals and gaskets.

I had considered using these in my motorcycle as the temps here hit 100º way too often. After reading some long term affects, I hesitated at using them. I'm sure the people I spoke with didn't follow the directions for the racing applications, and honestly why would they if they weren't racing. But some did have problems with gelling and crystallization.

If you do use an additive, I'd definitely go with the racing instructions of draining and flushing.

That being said, for the climate you're in, it seems there's a problem with the cooling system itself. Before I added anything, I would follow the suggestions posted earlier and get the system cooling properly first. Of course, once you have it cooling like it should, I would say the additives wouldn't give you any great advantage for normal use.

I ran a temp gauge on my LT500 and DS650, with both the Ice and then with Water Wetter, the Water Wetter ran lower temp of 8 deg lower. And my quads are pulling a load....me!

I put in the Engine Ice this weekend and ran it hard for a few hours. Seems to work good. Fan barely evenly came on. Maybe once.
I flushed it real good, than realized I almost forgot the over flow tank. All in all, took about 2 hours. We'll see how it works out.

edited by moderator, although I would really like to know where he did put it in the air cooled motor.

I was thinking the same thing. How is that possible? Did he rub it on the outside of the motor? Weird!
