HI All,
I have a 2010 Renegade 500 and the front drive shaft clanks when giving it gas. I can physically move the shaft with my hand. There is definitely a 1/4 inch play in it. I just came home from the dealer and he said its normal when the quad breaks in. I'm not buying it. Any thoughts from anyone. Thanks in advance...

polaris atv's have even more than that.
unless you beat the snot out of that rene- there's no way that thing needs cv's with only 350 miles on it. hardly broken in at 350.

If one side has play and the other side does not then some things wrong. Go to your dealership and turn the axle on a new one and see if its normal or not.
Could be a bad CV right from the factory that slid by quality control. For all you know they forgot to pack that CV boot with grease.

are you sure it's the cv that has play and not the diff?
it's normal for all diffs to have some play in them-
I can't remember if my renegade had inboard or outboard disk brakes- but if they are inboard (disk near the diff side of the shaft) you can apply the parking brake and that would stop any play being felt in the cv shaft coming through from the diff- (because the brake is between the diff & cv joint) if you still feel play in the cv shaft with inboard disks and the brakes applied, then it could very well be a cv joint.
if you have outboard disks up front (disks near the tires) then it will be a bit more difficult to tell if the play is coming through from the diff since the brake is between the wheel & the cv joint- look carefully- cv joint play and diff gear play can be deceiving.
