Default DS650 Problems Help??

Hello everyone I acquired a 2003 Ds650 Baja the battery was dead but it boosted off fine and I rode it for the test ended up getting it. Well before I rode it again I made sure to buy a new battery. After installing the battery it ran fine for that days play around ride(30 min max). About a week later I went to ride it again and the battery was completely drained wouldn't even turn on the lights. While having a battery charger/booster hooked up it will only run while the starter is held. If you do not hold the start button then it just spits and backfires. Was the battery I replaced the old one with just bad or is there something electrical that caused the battery to drain? Also why will it only run with the start button pressed? Any help would be much appreciated I am lost!

Charge the battery & check the battery voltage while its running... Probably a bad regulator.
