Hi i want to build a can-am atv. I do not have the money to buy a brand new can am so I was looking and it may be possibly cheaper to build. I am looking at a price under 4000. I will take all used parts. I am looking to build this ATV from scratch with all the parts. I don't have the experience of putting an ATV together I have been on ATV's before but I have never built one, my friend knows how to build ATV's but he does not seem to be a big help. How long will the process take, how hard is it to do, and how much will it cost with all used parts?

Buy a Can AM a person is parting out but try to get it before he removes anything. Less work for him and you.

 

There is no way to give you a price on used ATV parts. One person in one part of the country is going to ask more than another person somewhere else. Condition of the parts is going to factor in as well. A lot of people sell parts on eBay and I've gotten good deals in the past. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend doing it unless you're really good with a wrench. At least you'll need a service (not owners) manual for whatever model you're planning on building. I think I'd rather take a second job and earn the money than try to put one together.

 

Yes exactly. If you haven't worked much on atvs you likely don't even have the required tools for such a project. That alone could set you back quite a bit.

 

Buy a nice used atv. The biggest problem is that used Can-Ams are the most expensive machines out there. I would look at other brands. I'm assuming you're looking for a 4x4 utility machine. For about 4000, you can buy something like a Yamaha Grizzly 660 or Kawasaki Brute Force 650. Both are great choices for a sporty 4x4 utility machine. In fact in my area there is one of each of these both priced well under 4000 in great shape on craigslist. Buying a machine that needs work almost always ends up costing you more than its worth.
