We offer the 42 with accelerator pump for the trail and woods riders, but the racers use the 45. If you're running above about 4000 rpm, there is no hesitation. Been doung the single cylinder thing for about 20 years now, and lots of tuners have tried to tell me that big ports and carbs don't "flow" as well as small ports. Those guys al finished behind us.

Eli54,

I don't think anyone is questioning the pedigree of Ron Woods Racing, or yourself for that matter. I actually thought my post was standing up for the RWR stage one kit. The problem with the stage one kit is sort of listed in your reply. It works well over 4000 RPM, but that gives away half of the power band. MX racers are often times under 4000RPM. Desert racers and trail riders would prefer a motor that didn't have to be shifted as often to stay in the power band as well. You stated "No Play Bikes", but most riders want to be able to play on there bikes and race them as well. I believe that large ports do flow better than small ports, but with a large single cylinder, smaller ports/carbs work better at lower RPM. As the displacement or head flow is increased, the larger carb will work threw out the entire rev range. I've had the opportunity to work on several Ron Woods Racing motors, as customers have upgraded from stage II or stage III to our 703 or 760 motors. I will go so far as to say that one of our big displacement motors with the large valves and port work[done by RWR or Team Pami] will benifit greatly from a carb larger than 45MM, or dual carbs. I offer the choice of a 42 or 45MM carb for our motors after talking with the customer to determine what they are looking for. We build race bikes/motors, but unlike your statment, we build play bikes as well[or combinations of the two].

He should check the plug or plugs, that might tell you some thing is wrong.I donk think it was the tires

Was the gearing and tire size the same?
Was the race up hill or on the flats?
Was there a finish line or was this just a top speed thing?

Sorry for all the questions
Jeff

what other forum are yall talkin about?... lol j/k I havent been here in a while, but Jimmie keeps me filled in

I will just testify that the 45mm carb isnt in the box fine tuned and ready to just be slapped on. When I first fired up my DS after installing the stage 1 kit, It ran like a 2 legged dog until I got the carb fine tuned. After that I could see a definate power increase and getting rid of that rev-limiter made all of the difference in the world. I noticed a bigger difference from stock to stage1 than from stage1 to stage2.
Im not sayin you didnt beat a stage1 DS, Im just sayin there has to be a reason for being able to do it.

I believe that the over-reving of the motor will foul out the spark plugs and you will lose alot of your top end because of the spark. This happened to me this weekend. Just the addition of the cdi box will beat out a stock DS.
