Ok, I have the RWR Stage 1 kit and so does my brother. He blows my DS away. We have started looking at my jetting to see it this may be why he's killing me. Anyway being that he and I are limited on time we've ONLY checked main jets so far. Mine is a 150 and his a 145. We are going to check needles soon and compair BUT I was wondering 2 things. 1. Is his 145 enough to make that much of a difference, from a dead start to we both top out at the end he's 6 + lengths ahead of me. Mine feels like I'm drag'n a VW behind me. I ride his and its crisp through the gears. 2. I was wondering is the TM45 owners in LOW Alts. like me in Florida could tell me your main jet size, needle placement and ANYTHING that make help me fix this and save me some time. I'm still going to check all my settings but want something to compair to other than my brothers even though I know his is the best compairson. Thanks for any help.

Try switching jets with your brother.

This topic has come up often - try searching for previous threads.

Assuming everthing else is about right, the jet needle position will have the most affect on acceleration crispness.

What is your % cylinder leakage? Maybe you need new rings.

Maybe you need new clutch discs and the old ones are slipping.

ScoobyDFW, not sure about any cylinder leakage BUT the motor "this the second one" has 20-30 hours on it and I don't dog it.

Hurycne, the clutch does'nt feel like its slipping at all.

mean650, no dry rot its 2 months old.

To determine if it's a carb problem at all, I suggest switching carbs, not just main jets. It results are swaped, then set you carb identicly to his.

There are many other variables it could be, but the carb is the most common and most easily fixed.

Some of the other things it could be; cam timing, spark plug indexing, bearing tollorance, chain tention, axle bearings, etc...

Knowing that the main jet controls 3/4 to full throttle, how big a diff. does a 145 vs. a 150 main make?Does a higher or lower # provide more fuel?I think there is also another problem happening poss. w/ jet needle and clip position.Although his DS has smooth power it almost too smooth.Mine doesn't have abrupt power but in a race between us two, anything after 1st gear i'm leaving him.As a matter of fact if i'm cruising say at 55-60 and he is behind me, he come sneak up to and by me but i just hammer my beast and i immed. catch and pass him w/ease.Only diff. between bikes is tires.holeshots vs. razors. And although they are the same "size" my razors are noticably taller.Same sprocket # also.

How do I get to the F#$&*#G needle?!?!? I opened the top and see the needle way down low, I opened the throttle up to get a better look but how do I get that damned thing out? The manual is NO help either.

ProEMTPFF,
The needle is a pain to get too. What helps is to place a long narrow object(like a long small allen wrench)under the arm (when pulled up)that pulls up the slide, then it helps you to get to the screw that releases the needle(needle nose pliers help to remove the needle)no pun intended.
Just loosen the screw enough to slide the keeper out of the way.
Or something like that................
