I just got back from Waynoka, my first trip to the dunes with my 2001 Bomb. I went with Trackers on the rear and let me tell you they suck bad. I did some research at the dunes and ended up putting a set of 9 Paddle, 20", Extreme Haulers on. I went to the drag strip and it was all that I could do to get off the line. Should I go with a taller tire or what? I don't have a lot of mods (Ron Woods CDI, Main Jet-155, Stock Air filter) but on dirt it is terrible hard to keep the front end down in first and second. Any help would be great. I'm new to the DS world.

Hey, DuneRider1, good question! It was nice meeting another fellow ds rider! I really enjoyed my first trip to LS as well. So, the 20" extreme haulers spun too much? I had the same problem with the 20" sand devils! I'm thinking that maybe a 22" tire might be better. I know that Biggerisbetter's scat trak edges were hooking up well. All I did off the line was either spin or wheelie through the first 3 gears when they finally hooked up!

I just switch over to STU Mini Desert Trak 22-14-10 with a comp cut. My old stagger cut Padla Brat would dig in on the stats. Once you got going they were great for going straight. Greg Row told me to put on the biggest and widest tire I could fit because of all the torque the engine makes. Bigger and wider is better.

I run 23-10-12 haulers with 8 paddles and they hook awesome at LS. They are faster drag racing because they are taller and it gears you higher.

Some people have said that there 20" tire hook up well. If you are one of those people could I get some input from u? Also will a 23" tire fit under the fenders without trimming? Doesn't look like there would be much room with that large a tire when hitting some big air.

buttfungus,
I'm glad u liked your trip to LS even though it was cold. By the way how did the Bombs do on the strip? Oh yeah I tried going to a leaner main jet (155) and the DS just screamed. Then I tried going to a richer jet (180) and I started to cut out on the top end. Probably need to get a better filter and a dynojet kit. Also, I like your idea about posting everyones DS mods and setups. That info really helped me get started with my DS. Beats the Warrior doesn't it?

Lastly,
Anyone know of someone that wants a set of 8 paddle,Kenda Trakkers for the Bomb?

One last question! Does any one have trouble with their tires spinning at the top end of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear? I do and it feels like there is more power to be had.

I would suggest a 22x11x8 9paddle cavlar skat trak haulers. They work very well for me.

Biggerisbetter ran some thursday till his clutch started slipping a little. He ran a couple drags with my quad and did better than I did!I'm still learning. I made a few runs wednesday and friday. Darn shees! Oh well, I did ok, with what I had. I did eat some roost though! Got beat alot, but had a blast! Dunerider1, did you try raising your needle jet to the bottom notch? It will give you more midrange punch! Yeah, you need to get an direct mount k&n filter for the carb, or k&n for the stock airbox and run without the lid and try jetting up and raise the needle one notch. Throw away that pos stock filter! The DS likes to breathe!

Dunerider, I have 20x10x10 skat trak edges on my 2001DS. I'm still learning to ride with paddles. I have noticed a tremendous increase in traction from the stock dominators in sand as to be expected. I have noticed some tire spin in deep loose sand. But in hard packed sand no problem getting traction, I just have problems keeping the nose down. I don't have an expierence with taller tires on my ds. But on other four wheelers the taller tire made a differnce in traction to me. I will probably get a larger set of tires next round. Does anyone know the largest size you can get under the ds without trimming?
