My riding buddy with the Raptor barely beats me right now in the 100 yrd sand drag 'cause my clutch slip situation, getting new springs soon and then problem solved I should hope, and now I see his postings on the Yamaha forum (eRAPTOID) about a cam, and a new headpipe for his e-series slip-on.
Doesn't it suck that we have to pay twice as much money to get even with a Raptor?
Two new cams (with springs,or without), or a high comp piston - what should it be for me?? I can look up old posts and get my answers, but this is more fun...

Hightower- you should call knutz, he is the go fast man!!! A riding friend just put ron woods race 1 cams in. Not a lot of improvement. It was his first running though, still tuning. It was a lot of scratch for the improvement that i saw.

Knutz is too busy, doesn't have time for everybody's questions. I wanna hear some smack from DS riders about the a$$ they kick with their mods.
The high comp piston is the quickest, easiest, cheepest thing for me to do, but where is the bigger gain - piston or cams/springs, or is there not enough noticable difference with just one and both at the same time is the only real gain? I don't wanna spend a fortune on overbores, just wanna work on it in my own garage...

I've decided that the best cams for me, based on my riding areas, terrain, style, etc., is a "sport" style cam for maximum low and midrange, rather the highest lift for top end gain. If I go with this type of cam, are heavier and/or dual rate valve springs required, or are they just an easy "drop-in" at my next valve clearance check/adjustment.
I didn't have to adjust valves at my last check, but the intakes were .002", so I'd expect to need thinner shims next time, and I might just go with cams while I'm at it.
