Just last week my DS has started to do the same thing...except its when I`m launching in 2nd for a drag race. It`ll go about five feet the pop into nuetral. After doing a search in this forum the general conclusion is that the DS has week shifting forks that bend under hard shifting (abuse). I got in touch with a Bomb rep and was told "Yes, we know about the problem...and no, we can`t do anything for you..." He also went on to say that "The reason so many people are having this problem is from ABUSE..." I was like "WHAT" Are you telling me that your transmission can`t hold up to the normal wear and tear that people are going to give and expect the bike to take?? He said, "Its a good tranny, just don`t abuse it. Are you telling me that in the Baja 500 and 1000 they are taking it easy on the tranny....I think not!!! Anyways, I called the dealer the parts are like $48 for each shift fork of which there are three and the labor is about $420. Mines going to the shop next week. And to all of you having trouble shifting into 3rd or any other gear for that matter...your time is coming........

Yea,
Sounds like a bent fork or the dogs are worn(both if you let it go)fix it before you have to replace a couple of gears too.If the dogs are worn they can be fixed, alot cheaper then replacing with new gears
I sent my gears out had them under cut...then Chryo treated the tranny and forks...hope it works.
If you do lot drag racing this seems to be a problem.

If your going to replace the forks you may want to consider Kryrogenicaly(sp?) treating them to prevent this or at least make it less likely in the furture
Jeff beat me by one minuet, sorry for the double post!

In all fairness to Bomb, Shift forks will bend if enough stress is put on them. Its just as true with Yamaha, Honda Zook and the others. Just because its a big quad doesn't mean you have to pound the $#!t out of the shifter to change gears. There are many on this forum that have had no trans problems and there is horse power o'plenty.

The damaged shift fork is what allows the gear to slip out but every time it does it damages the enguagement dogs on the gear as well. If it pops out often you may also need a couple of gears to go with the shift forks, figure another couple hundred.

No offense to experienced riders, I'm not trying to suggest anything here about anybody, but for the inexperienced guys who might read this thread, inappropriate clutch use can contribute to premature failure. Don't slam into gears speedshifting with no clutchwork, like alot of Honda guys do. I don't mind walking down the gears without the clutch, as I'm slowing down, but not when I'm upshifting, especially under load.

I have to agree with most here,My bent forks and worn dogs were rider induced, oops!Under normal use the stock forks should be fine.
The chryo treatment was about $75,and the Race cut was about $200 to $300 depending on damage(includes repairing of the worn engagment dogs)
Here are the links for the Chryo & gear work

Well the dealer called and said they couldn't get it to do it. They asked him if they could take it trail riding. He's like are you crazy or what he!! no you can't take it riding.
