for a little extra flow you can cut an old outter wear and cover the holes thats what i did until recently thats the only way i ran air box and kn with outter wear.

I am not sure what to do. I did not notice a huge difference, but I may try going back to the carb mount. It seems everyones filter gets a little smashed. The bottom of the carb mount filter is where it really rubs. Mine is pretty ugly on the bottom side. It hits the metal frame support.

It does seem that I always end up on the front of the seat. Plus, alot of times I have my son with me and he rides up on the front of the seat also.

I ended up rejetting, I did not realize just how rich I was. Anyway it is much leaner now and seems to run great.

I may try shimming the seat up a bit and see if that helps to clear the filter. When I have time I will play with it and see.

Angry - what do you mean the seat gets sucked to the airbox? I run an open airbox, with the snorkel holes plugged - the only place for air flow is through the top, and the seat is an inch away from it.

I'm using a 195 main jet, 3rd groove on the needle, and can't seem to get beat by any other stock motored DS on petro in the 100yrd, so I'm pulling plenty of air. Oh - and I weigh 240 and that's not enough to make my seat sag near enough to block the airbox.

putting the carb mount filter is about a 2hp gain and 3 mph on top end for mine.i bought both filters.with the k&n in the box i lost back the 2hp and 2mph,but a 1mph gain on top.thats really an expensive motor for 1-3 mph gain, but i run the carb mount myself.

Well I tried the stock intake boot and k&n filter without the lid again today and it just doesn't have the throttle response and crispness that the carb mount k&n filter has. You can definetely tell the difference! I will be putting the carb mount k&n back on before the next ride!

I agree, I am going to go back to the carb mount also.

I am toying with a couple of different ideas to avoid the rubbing on the seat and frame. I am hoping to get a chance this week to work on it and see what I can come up with.

Bat, yeah let me know what you find out! I tried putting some hard foam spacers between the seat and the frame but didn't work out so well.

bf, I was thinking about spacers, but I dont think that will work either.

I have been thinking maybe a real short peice of pvc or something to go between the carb and the filter just to space it back far enough to avoid that bottleneck area.

I dont know. I just want it to filter good and not rub so bad. I too like the feel with the carb mount filter, but I also dont want to have to replace it every 6 months do to crushage.

Well, we will see. Just need some time to fool around with it.

Guys I found a UNI filter that mounts up real nice to the stock carb(sorry lost the part #) it comes with a extra foam oterwear and angles down slightly,I took the extra foam off and put an outerwear on and it "works great" no more holy outerwear or crushed filters
been using it since day one, when I couldn't get a K&N intime before a dune trip
