Hightower, you havent got a 15th yet? Man if I would have known that I would have told ya to get one months ago. It's a whole new world!! You'll love it. As for the gears are you talking in sand or in dirt and what tires? On dirt, second is the way to go. I rev mine pretty good and have my weight forward then let it rip, as soon as the launch is done slam your butt to the back and let the traction grabb. This will get you an awesome launch and at least an even holeshot. When I say Rev, I mean REV as well. I dont have a tach so I dont know the numbers. Same goes for the sand but I always use first in the sand. Got a new rear sprocket as well so that may change. Dsa can account to the higher R's on the take off. I showed him it when he was racing Disturbed and it made a huge difference. The tranny can take it. Possition plays a huge part, the best idea is to get it to where the tires just lift and carry and then settle. too far back your skyward and have to let off, too far forward and you have no taction. I am sure you already know this but I am just saying for all to read and maybe help some newbies. hope this helps

yeah, I'm still 16T up front cause I've always liked the gearing on the trails. Granted, I never see fifth gear where we ride - the only time I ever get into 5th gear is in the fall when I'm flying through all the harvested fields - but 1st 2nd and 3rd have always felt good where they are and I didn't want to lower 1st any because its so low already, especially with the stock rev limiter, but I've got a RWR CDI, and it would be nicer to stay in 2nd more often and not have to shift down into 1st as much for the quick steep technical climbs, so the 15T is sounding like a good idea all the way around, especially for drags. I think I'll also be able to climb a lot of the longer hills in 3rd, instead of 2nd.

You know, for some reason I've never reved realy high prior to dumping the clutch on the DS, I think its all that conditioning from dragging 3-wheelers, so that's why I haven't done well starting in 2nd gear. If 2nd gear is really that much better than 1st, then some people better look out, cause I don't do too bad in 1st! Next time this is what I'll try. As far as the sand, I'd guess that my 10 paddle haulers will need a 1st gear start, but I'll do a couple runs starting in 2nd too, just to be sure.

well i raced a raptor wit full WRP pipe, K&N Power Up Kit and 20" Blackwaters, mine was stock wit my realtors, we started on bout 10' paved and i didn't want 2 flip mine backwards so i didn't dump the clutch so he beat me outta the hole, i started in first, he had bout 9 quad lengths on me in the first 100" feet, but once i got it in 5th i started catchin up i got up to 3 lengths behind at 1/4 mile mark, i think i woulda beat him if i woulda started in second and let the clutch out faster, but then again this was like the 3rd day i had my ds so i wasn't used to it yet,
