Friction modifiers are used in posi-traction drive axles in front wheel drive cars to allow the clutches to slip better when turning corners. Without it, the front tires churp, grab and skid.
Certain friction modifiers are also used in expensive specialty oils like Mobile-1 and many oil addatives to reduce friction in the moving parts of your engine.

Friction modifier is a generic term. It can be used both ways (increase or decrease friction).
In the case of Mobil 1, the "friction modifier" is intended to allow "gripping" of the clutch, not slippage.
Dino-oils use friction modifiers for increased lubricity (i.e. LSD's in trucks etc.)
Just an FYI.

Or on the Amsoil web site where it says Friction Modifier Free
AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke Motor Oil contains no friction modifiers..........
I never have read where it creates friction, this would defeat the whole purpose of lubricacion wouldn't it
oops had to get the Mobil site right..should work now
