Default Breather hose/RW exhaust question...????

Just got my RW exhaust put on yesterday. I noticed that the breather hose coming out of the right side of the engine is touching one of the headers. I also pulled it away from the header to look at it, and it is starting to melt. So is there anywhere I can re-route the hose to? It was originally hooked into one of the airbox intake hoses, but I had to get rid of those when I put on the carb mount filter.

Also I am jetted at a 185 right now(clip on 3rd from top), I had it at 195 but the mechanic said it was running too rich, and bogging out on top. So I put in the 185, it seemed to work good, but I had to stop because 3-4 people called to cops on me....almost got my quad taken away??@%?@#%?@?#% I just started it up a few mins ago and noticed that when I reved it up that a puff of white smoke would come out?? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hey Baja, what I did was went down to the local auto parts store and got alittle longer hose. Rerouted it from the right side to the left side and tie strapped it to the existing hoses. Then went right back up the the vent hoses on the right side. Looks good and keeps the hose away from the head pipe.

Default Breather hose/RW exhaust question...????

I got me some stainless stell braided hose from PepBoys and a Small Breather filer from the local auto parts store. I did the same as fullbore with the zip ties and routing. But I put the breather filter in the small cavity abouve the carb and at the end of the fuel tank.

BajaDS650:

Sounds like you are running a K&N direct mount air filter. Do you also have an outerware?

What jets are you using? Dynojet or Mikuni? (They are different sizes.) I would guess your jetting is fine. Do you have any spots along the throttle that don't respond as well as the others?

Not sure about the smoke.

Oh, be sure to put a breather filter on the oil line and on the carb breather as well.

Bummer about the noise. The Woods pipe is loud and I know there are restrictions up there. Can't help you on that. What is the current regulation? 94 cB???

I don't agree with MrHoursepower about re-connecting the hoses. I have seen huge gains with the direct mount filter (as has my riding buddy.) I don't have Dyno numbers but, I know hills I wasn't able to pull before that after installing I could. The O2 readings could have been a result of a too lean condition to begin with. Get me your e-mail and I can get you an Adobe Acrobat graph of theoretical flue gas chemistry (for boilers, which should be true for engines as well.)

Yeah....I do have the K&N direct mount with an outerware.
I am using the Dynojet(K&N) jets. Well, I haven't really been able to test it out much, but I did get it up to about 40mph....no place during acceleration where it bogged out. I'm not too sure if it was smoke or not, because it went away after a few seconds(maybe it was just like what a car does when you start it in cold weather?)

Yeah...it is loud, but I did get the supertrap disk setup for it to quiet it down, so hopefully that will help. The dunes down south have a noise limit of 93dB. There is one place that has a 97dB limit, otherwise it is 99dB state wide.

BTW, thanx Fullbore, Eaglecollector, MrHorsepower, and DuneMe!!!!

Eric:

Huge gains with the stock carb.

I just recently got the 45mm carb and mounted the filter on the carb as soon as I installed it. I have no point of comparison for the new carb.

Your whole situation is confusing to me. If you were fat (fuel rich) to start and then put your hoses, etc. back on that would actually cause your O2 to increase but, your HP would go down. So, this answers the O2 issue but, the HP issue is not answered. If you were at ideal conditionas and you put the tubes back on, you should now be fat (fuel rich) causing your O2 to drop. The O2 curve is a V shape curve with the low point (ideal conditions) at about 3% O2 (or 15% excess air - given that air is mostly nitrogen). These numbers are for burner combustion, I am not sure what they are for combustion engines.
