Default Got oil?

I purchased my '01 DS a short while ago, and I am making my first oil/filter change on it. I did the change per instructions in my service manual, yet I can't find the capacity for the whole system. I have 3 quarts of oil in it currently, and it will not register on the dipstick. I do get pressure, as my red indicator light does not light when the engine is running. All I really need to know is how much oil does this bike take? The manual is set up fairly well, but it doesn't have a lot of really specific tolerances and capacities on it.
Input appreciated

Default Got oil?

When I did my oil change and filter it took close to 4 quarts of oil to fill it up. I think the 3.3 quarts is without changing the filter.

mine took 3.3 qts without changing the filter, almost 4 with filter change, I just did it last nite, I used 2 2l pepsi bottles cut in half to make a slide for the oil to drain out of the front res and into a bucket, it actually worked pretty good, better than oiling the steering shaft..

hey rotaxrulz. Its easier to drain the oil out of the res. by undoing the hoseclamp that holds the return oil line to the motor. A lot less messy that way

Yes, that is what I did, but I also drained the tank by the plug at the bottom, I like to get the most oil out of the system as possible.
I am using Napa 10W30, since I don't have enough of the real stuff to go around. I plan on ordering a case of Honda HP-4, before my next oil change.
