how do you line up the timing chain back up to the bottom spocket(crank spocket) IS their a way the line back up?? (is thier a dot or different color chain link, or somthing to line it back up) takin the motor apart quicky and for got to mark the bottom timing chain.
Already know how to line up the top cams up.

If you put the bolt in to secure the crank, the bottom gear should be set. if not, install the crank locking bolt and set the cam gears accordingly.

 

lock the piston, or should i say crank at top dead center that is the larger allen screw on the bottom side of the case gear shift side. thenyour cam gear will line up with the two lopes facing away from each other, that is the two notches that you already know about you turn the crank over bye removeing the large slotted screw plug on the case just in front of the rear brake pedal and put a 6mm allen in there and you will feel it then you can turn the motor over to get it to top dead center, this should help.

 

I think i know what you taking about but, how did you line the chain back to the crank spocket???

 

if you are asking how to get the chain back on it should still be in place and all you do is pull it back up thru the cylinder case there, if it isn't you will have to pull the side of the case off to see the gear, but if i remember you have to pull the clutch to get the chain out

Let's start over here.

First, is the timing chain attached to the crank sprocket below? If not, remove the clutch cover to get to it and get it back on. A small bungee attached to the chain and your handle bars (I mean real small bungee - usually found in the camping section of Target, etc. to keep sleeping bags rolled up) will help.

Now that the chain is on you will need to put the clutch cover back on so you can lock down you piston at TDC. You will need to sharpen the tip of the allen so it goes in the slot (if you have an e-mail I will send you a great picture of the groove - mjbeaty@worldnet.att.net - .) Once this piece is in, don't try to turn the engine over.

Sounds like you are looking to get the chain at a specific spot???

We would usually line up the exhaust cam with the lobes out then have a tight chain and get the sprocket / cam on, then work on the air intake cams and keep the chain tension between the cams tight and place the air intake cam down with the chain on it.

yeah dune me that is what i was thinking but didn't explain very well! how was the riding at sand mountain? was planning a trip to the dunes but the storms started hitting the coast last thur.

Sand Mt. was great. The sand was extremely wet. Almost too much stick. I think there were a lot of people that had a hard time because they didn't have enough tire spin.

I wish it was closer to home 4.5 hour drive. Can't make it often enough.

dune me believe it or not i got away today with one of the guys that works for me and my brother, it was a local ride but the conditions were great. the problem i had was i have never bought good dirt tires and those stock kenda suck. so my brother brings his wifes raptor, so i finally rode one it is a interesting thing to say the least. after riding it awhile i thought something was wrong with my ds i could not feel the bumps. since i put the cams and piston in i think i'm starting to lose the clutch it is something between 3-4 but i guess that is just part of the game. we are planning a trip to the coast 1-2 march it should be great the weather has been bad so all of the riders should be out.
