DS650 engine upgrade choices.
Was out at sand lake a few weeks ago and hit a jump off camber. The quad landed on its side and had the throttle pinned for about 30 seconds (cable got over extended).
Anyway, I got it right side up and started it back up, it ran for about 10 seconds and died. Hit the starter again and it started to crank but very slowly..
So I finally got it apart today and found no topend damage, I was pretty happy.. until I pulled the jug and found my lower rod bearing had siezed up. lol.
Cylinder walls and piston look real good, minus a few marks on the top of the piston where it looks like the valves hit it a couple times after the rod bearing started to go..
I have 3 options right now. I could..
a. - trade my motor + $3200 for a complete woods stage 3 with low hours on it. Carb/intake not included.
b. - go with a 760 longblock for $4200 + $350 in work to the head (copper oring headgasket, new 10mm studs, ect.)
c. - have the shop put a new stock crank in my motor and put a nice race head on it. Ported/polished, cams, larger valves, and all the goodies to go with it for around $2000. Keeping in mind that $2000 doesnt include the crank or any of the lower end work the motor might need, not sure how much that will cost, I would assume probably 800-1000 more. This head is supposedly far superior to the Woods stage 3 head work.
760 would be using my stock head for now. Although I might drop the extra 700-800 bucks and get cams/springs ect and be done with it all at once so the cost on that could end up around 5.5k.. ouch.
If you had these choices which would you take and why?
Im swinging towards the 760 but still not 100% decided.
