In order for that to be true, and constant.... every motor that has ever been built would last about 35 minutes. I sustain 700 - 900 degrees for hours at a time when pulling. A little test for those who like to quad and camp.
items needed:
3 or 4 beer cans (most will probably have a handy supply of cans on tap )
a digital thermometer point and shoot kind. Make sure it will read to 1400 degrees. Some don't
a nice big fire at the camp site
try taking temps around the parimeter of the fire. Place cans accordingly. pace one at 200*, 400*, 800* and so on.
See if your can at 700* will melt... Please report your findings.

Good one BigDaddy...
It all depends on the type of Aluminum. We heat treat and age aluminum at 250 deg f to 1000 deg f. Our salt bath we use on aluminum is set for 920 deg f. Aluminum parts are left in there for up to 16 hours and they don't melt.
I would say " don't worry where the piston might melt, just set it up so it runs they way you want, if it breaks then you did something wrong".
Ride, ride hard and have fun!

That would be correct hing..... As far as different types of aluminum - you are correct. For the most part Aluminum is a composite (most of the time) with varying elements. some aluminum will melt at relatively low temps. Some aluminum welds very easy as some doesn't take to a good welding at all.
Have a great one gentleman.
