I went to drain the oil out of my engine, so i open the drain plug on the bottom of the engine and their is no gasket, although the manual tells you to change it, so is there supose to be a gasket or not? and if there is do i realy need it?
thanks for any help (this is the first time i change my oil by the way).

there is but it, only lets oil seep out like if you leave it in one spot it will have a spot on the floor. seems it says to replace every other oil change.

Bombrider the is a aluminum washer that goes on the drain plug that is what they call the gasket. If you don't see it on the drain plug it could be stuck on the block. If not it is at the bottom of your used oil. They can be used over if you don't have a new one. Some cars use the same one you could try a automotive jobber.

There is a gasket there for a reason. they wouldn't put one there if they didn't need it. so go buy a knew one. it will not hurt your engine unless your leaking oil. just keep an eye on your oil level. and i bet you could pick up a alum. washer at your local hardware store.

must of lost it on another oil change, and didn't notice, there is a problem with the cases gettin stripped if you over tighten the drain plug so i would make sure i got one i think they are a dollar here, so it couldn't be much there if it is i'll mail you one.

I did an oil change and forgot to put the aluminum washer gasket on. I had no problems with any leaking, but the next time I put the same one back on and still have no problem with using the same one over. Don't worry about it but you should get one eventually.
