Default Piston & cams?

When I first got my DS a local mechanic talked me into putting a set of cams in. I was not happy after it was done. Luckily I blew the head gasket an had to take the motor back out. You do realize the motor does have to be removed. I realized that all the hop-ups kind of go together. Since you have to take the motor out I sugggest you do cams, port your head, add a piston, clutches and springs and get ready to rip. If you plan to do just one I would do the piston.

Hey Mr. Meaner FYI the engine doesn't have to be removed at all! All you have to do is notch your frame at the Top Motormount and you can pull it apart real easy! Trust me I know! I can tear a engine down in about 2 hours or less at least the top half anyway.

Wow that sounds a lot easier. Wish I would have known that about a month ago. Anyone else done that?

I only found out at Snake hunt about atv connection. My wife hates it because everytime she trys to use the comp Im on it. I need someone to be a little more specific about what and where to grind. If not maybe a picture.

It's right where the top motor mount is on the frame. There is a bead of weld running across the frame there. You only need to grin a little bit of this weld. Not even all the way through. The width only need to be as wide as the ear on the head that goes into the upper motor mount.

I never touched the frame- I took an 1/8" out of the aluminium head bolt area and now it clears fine, actually you have to wiggle it a bit to get the head off but it's about a 5 minute job with a die grinder.

ditto what major said - I never ground frame either.
Another method is to remove all but one motor mount bolt, and just tilt the motor forward a little to clear the head mount. But the motor mounts are a btich, and its much easier to grind a wee bit.
