Default Seat Flexing problem.

I am having a problem with my ds where as I am riding, shifting my weight around will cause the seat to flex enough to make it slip off the front blocks, and sometimes the alignment bolt on the side that slips of the block will come out of the metal locking tab under the seat.

Has anyone else had this problem, or is it just my fat @ss. How have you fixed it?

Thanks,
-Tom

Default Seat Flexing problem.

I never had that problem until I had redone my frame, and then had to re-adjust my seat latch. I lost my 2 rubber stoppers under the rear,so i bought some from the local hardware store, but they are alittle taller then the stock ones, Obviously my seat wouldn't latch with these new rubbers, so I adjusted the latch out so it would work. NOW my front latches pop out when I tweak my seat they right/wrong way.

SO it is my belief that if I lower the rear of my seat, this will lock the front in ALOT better, then the problem should be solved. I will know for sure after this weekend.

I'll let you know.

Default Seat Flexing problem.

I fix that problem with 1-inch wide piece of steel bar. Just cut it so a 1/2-inch sticks out on each end and trim to fit. I drilled two holes where the gas tank mounting bolts go to keep it in place.

Default Seat Flexing problem.

I had the same problem. I used two pieces of 1" wide, 1 1/2" long 1/4" thick aluminum, I bolted it to the cross piece that the back of the tank bolts to. It sticks outward about 5/8" and holds the seat up.

I also put a piece af 1" x 10" x 1/4" piece across the frame using the foreward bolts that hold the rear fender on. (right where the fuses are)

It worked................

Default Seat Flexing problem.

I had the same problem about a year ago, maybe more, but my seat actually broke where the front support bolts are attached to the seat. After finding out that this little situation caused me to buy a new $300 seat I decided to figure out what happened. What I found was that the seat support that was part of the frame, under the rear of the gas tank, was too narrow and under hard riding the seat would slide off of the support and transfer all of the load to the front seat mount bolts and eventually rip them out. So I made an extension bracket that sits under the rear tank mount and extends the support about ¾” on each side. Problem solved. The seat fits nice and snug and no more broken mounting studs. There is a picture of it on mounted on the quad on my photo page and there is also a diagram of it there too.

Hope this helps.

Default Seat Flexing problem.

Sounds like I was on the right track..

KenDS, I see that you installed an hour meter. Did you just trigger it off the ignition switch, or did you find a run circuit (only hot when running)?

Thanks
Tom

Default Seat Flexing problem.

I went the easy way and just wired it to the ignition switch.

Default Seat Flexing problem.

Also have both seat bolt holder thingers broke out at Dumont a couple of weeks ago and my warranty won't cover it. Also called Bombardier about it and of course they say its a none issue according to them and quoted me $ 300.00. One year old 2002 Baja, I think its an issue and notified NHTSA because I think its a safety issue.
