Fresh rebuild difficulties! Need feedback!!

Well we put Mario's bike back together and took it out to Dumont. We did a couple of heat cycles drove it around for a little and then started pounding the hill!!! Well let me tell you, his bike pulls like a MONSTER!!! It was running real good for a while and then it felt like the motor was getting tight!! For the life of me I can't figure this one out. It looked like his red light was wanting to come on, it was dimmly lit and it would idle good but when you tried to rev it up it would act like someone was trying to strangle it! It felt like the cylinder was grabbing the piston. But I don't know what could be causing it? After we let it cool down you could start it and it would rev right up no problem! But I didn't dare drive it around again until we can figure out what may be causing it. Here are a few theories I have:
1. We may have lost a washer in the clutch side case and it chewed up the oil pump gears.
2. There is an air bubble in the oil sytem? (unlikely) since he didn't flip[ the bike over or anything.
3. Perhaps some of the sealant we used may have clogged up an oil passage? (unlikely) If it would have clogged it up it would have doe it right off the bat!
4. I noticed that the interferance in the cylinder to piston clearance was pretty snug. Not much sise to side or front to back play. The gap on the rings was correct though.
My theory right now is that the piston clearances are a little tight and the piston swelled up enough to start causing drag against a steel sleeve that doesn't expand at the same rate.
But, also I looked down the oil tank and usually you will see anice steady stream of oil pouring into the resevoir and you can see it sucking it down aslo. Well it looked like it wan't really sucking it down very good. I have a oil restriction somewhere some how I think is the main problem!!! Has anyone else ever ran into an issue like this?

are you running a tapered piston? I know my JE has just under a 1mm tapper bottom to top so if it were tight it would be the bottm dragging and not the top. What were the ring gaps set at?
I'd pull the valve cover and crank the engine over for 10-15 secs so you can see how much oill flow you have getting to the top end It has to pass thru the rest of the engine to get there I believe( may Knutz can verify )
You can acces the oil pump gears fairly easily but I doubt that is the problem-- did you build a stroker?

May not be much help, but....when I first fired mine up after the rebuild, the red indicater light did the SAME thing. It never came on, but just started to glow a little. I was in a poor;y lit garage, so I know it wasn`t from any ambient light source. I thought those lights were either on or off, and not capable of different intensities. Anyway, I shut it down to cool off, fired it back up and have never seen it again. ?????????????

Curtis, the ring gaps are set at .019 and .017. And no it isn't a stroker. I noticed that his cam chain tensioner was really sticky in the bore. It as kind of hard to push in. Whould it be possible you think taht the cam tensioner could have locked out fully extended!!! Not collapsed like they usually do? I think that that would put pressure on it also. If that tensioner was fully extended and locked there, that would be putting a lot of strain on the cam chain causing drag bigtime, especially when you give it more throttle, wouldn't you think?

Hummm...very interesting. After reading this i decided to check my tenshioner. And sure enough. It would only collaps about an 1/8". I kept working it and working it and gradually it got to where i could collaps it about 1/4". So I worked it some more. And after about 5 mins of doing this it finally will collaps about 3/8 to 1/2" just using my index and thumb. Still a bit of a strain but doable. You might be on to something there Tony.

Damn, that sux. That quad was working fine when we left. What, ya didn't have any more rappys to beat up on so ya beat up on your own. j/k. Hope he gets it taken care of.

what is the minimum piston/cylinder clearance that samcoe reccomends? it's gonna be a pain to check it but live and learn.
try swapping out the tensioner with your bike - this is one I'm not sure you would even feel. Was the bike overheating at all? blowing oil?

HEY GUYS any help would be appreciated THIS UNFORTUNATLY IS MY BIKE no ,not blowing oil, no water in oil, not blowing smoke, not blowing anti-freeze either, WAS NOT overheating...and i just tried to bleed the system with the screw by oil filter and no air bubbles, and is pumping oil fine..and then i tried to drain the oil out of the bottom drain plug and only about a shot of oil came out!! ....no metal grit in the little bit of oil that came out.ALL THE OIL SEEMS TO BE IN TOP RES
