Default Redcat x-200 review

I previosly owned two Kazuma (Redcat) KMZ 150's. My wife and I used these two atv's for about a year. They worked well for our needs of general trail riding. I sold mine and purchased one of the new Redcat x-200's. (I have bought all three atv's from John at Raceway). I pulled the atv from the crate and like the last two, pretty much went thru the whole atv taking my time replacing fluids, dis-assembling and re-assembling with locktight etc. I did notice however that this atv was put together at the factory with more quality control than the last two I bought. The atv is liquid cooled and comes with a sending unit but no temp guage or idiot light. I like guages so I installed an electric temp guage and a new sending unit. The sending unit surprisingly is standard NPT threads. The carb has a manual chock - (no more electric bystarter) but no air box just a high flow filter. I reversed the front rims to get a wider stance and installed wheel spacers on the rear. The motor runs smooth and has plenty of power and the transmission shifts smooth - 1 down 4 up. Yes the trans is a five speed. Reverse gear is part of the rear differential/axel assembly. It works well but is a little stiff - haven't gotten that far yet. The atv will wheelie without dumping the clutch. Just a little pull on the handle bars and a blast of throttle and up she goes - balances well and has enough power to shift a couple gears in the wheelie (I'm a little rusty). The suspension is night and day from the KMZ 150's. It is a lot more progressive and absorbs bumps well. The tires are on 8 inch rims and are small - 19's on the front and 18's in the rear. The atv handled well but was too low to the ground and looked silly next to my wifes KMZ 150 that has 10 inch rims with 23's on the front and 22's on the rear. I replaced the tires with 20's front and rear - much better. I need to get some more seat time but I've had a lot of fun on this atv so far. Not quite a Honda but I didn't expect one when I bought it. For the little riding I do this one should work out well. I would have liked to see a slightly larger frame length and larger tires from the factory. I'm 5'-10" and the atv doesn't feel small but I sit at the rear of the seat. This atv may be too small length wise for anyone over 6' tall. As I have stated in previous posts these knock off atvs are great for their intended use and do require a strong mechanical background not just someone who can put on the tires and fill the gas tank. Hope this helps for anyone looking at this atv model. If the time is put in during assembly this should be a great atv for the money.

If you don't have a dealer in town go with John at Raceway - he has stood behind any warantee issues I have had in the past. The x-200 is a nice machine - not quite a Honda but I think as close as your gonna get for the money. Good luck.

Other than tearin' up my lawn, I haven't done any real riding. We are hoping to get away in the next couple of weeks and bring the atv's with us. I will post with some updates when I get some more seat time. That's too bad Raceway is out of the X-200's. Redcat makes a simmilar model as the x-200 with the front and rear racks its called a DPX200 and there is a DPX250. John used to have the DPX 200 up on his website. I don't think it is there anymore but you can see it on www.Redcatmotors.com. John is an authorized Redcat Dealer he should be able to get one if they are in stock. Maybe another option for you. Best of luck.

i thought the x-200 at raceway was a redcat vx-200 on redcatmotors.com take a look and see what you think just remove the brush guard in your mind when you look at redcat.

good review Propertymaint...........
" As I have stated in previous posts these knock off atvs are great for their intended use and do require a strong mechanical background not just someone who can put on the tires and fill the gas tank"

That is why I dont have any problems with the knock-off brands.........I am a mechanic for a living, and I guess I really dont have a prob doing a pre-ride inspection of the bike........That is a good warning to some of these people that get pissed because there $1000 new quad didnt hold up like a Honda!......( no kidding; DUH!) Sorry djs7795, you are right, the x-200 is the same as the vx-200. My x-200 has "Redcat" on the gas tank. There are other models besides the vx 200 in the line up such as the dpx 200 and dpx250. I believe the dpx200 is the same frame size but the dpx250 is a little larger when looking at the specs.

Thanks for the review Propertymaint, And I agre with Thrash too. The chinese quads are great if used as they were intended and if you can turn a wrench. If not, buy something else.
