Default Two Falcon 110s for Christmas

My granddaughters have pretty much destroyed the back yard with their new Kazuma 110s they got Christmas morning. I have to say I am impressed with the things. They look great and run great. Raceway did us good, too, and they got here when they said they would with no surprises.

One of the units has been completely trouble free for about 15 hours of use. All it required was a minor chain tension adjustment after a few hours. The other one has been rather a pain, but most everything has been easily fixed as it came up. It had one quirky little problem that I was lucky to find. Between the carb and the manifold tube is a plastic spacer with an o-ring on one side. The o-ring had come apart (broke and the ends separated) allowing air to leak in. Finding and fixing that made it run a lot better. The oil fill plug was in so tightly that getting it loose busted the shiny plastic top off the thing, but the plug and seal are still intact so pliers work until I get a new one.

About the only problem left unsolved is some voltage leaking through the contacts in the key switch when the key is off. The shift position indicator light remains dimly lit when the key is off. Pushing the horn or the starter button makes it go out, but the only way to keep it off is to disconnect the switch wiring plug. My initial thought was that some water got inside the switch and would eventually dry up, but it doesnt seem to be the case. It was fine for the first day, but now I have to unplug the wiring harness when it is parked. Any ideas? I haven't looked too closely at the switch yet, but I imagine there should be a way to get it apart and clean things up inside.

Overall, I am amazed at the quality for the price of these machines. I am a nervous grandpa type, so the kids are still just using first gear and about 1/3 throttle, but they still have plenty of get-up-and-go. It's kind of funny that the one the 9 year old drives has all the little troubles, because the 12 year old is a lot bolder and harder on hers. The good thing is the back yard is now all mud and we will never have to mow it again.

Mike

It may seem like alot of problems for a new quad to you. Everyone is entitled to their opinions/brands. I purchased a chinese quad for my son and the only thing we have had to deal with is a little slack in the chain. If the thing blew up tomorrow, I'd buy another in a heartbeat. If you want a quad you can race/abuse spend the extra money, if you want one the kids can learn on and do general riding, buy the chinese. Defects/problems can happen with anything.

Case in point, try spending $45,000 on a new Corvette and have the computer go out on it with less than 1200 miles on it. THAT will make you a little mad.

Amen Brother. These are not top of the line quads, note the price. I can buy my kids 3 or 4 for the same price as one of the name branders and let them beat the crap out of it and not care. If you can turn a wrench then it isn't much trouble to keep them running and you just might learn something about small engine repair in the process. John at Raceway backs these things up like nobodys business. You have a part go bad, give him a call and you'll have it within the week. I just got a new fuel filter from him, didn't request it, they just felt this one was better. I can pretty much bet you the local Honda shop wouldn't do that, but they would charge you a good bit to bring it in so they could do it.

I have no complaints. The problems were just little things that required a one-time fix; not defects or value diminishing things. I don't even remember what all of them were - that's how minor they have been. It just struck me as odd that the red one had them all and the yellow one had none. I would buy another one of these before a name brand for three times the price, and I would reccommend them to others for kids' first timers.

A big part of the reason the price is so low is because the workers who build them are paid very little, so some assembly and manufacturing mistakes are to be expected. If a like size Honda costs $2k more, you can bet that $1k is spent on skilled labor. The big test over time will be the internal machine work and assembly along with the quality of the materials used to build the motor and drive. I can fix anything on there you can see, and make most of the external parts. But if someone forgot to torque a rod cap or put a retainer on a gear shaft, that's a little more involved. As long as they keep running and going, I really don't worry too much about the rest because I will fix it as needed.

And the girls love the things!
