#1
I have a 2005 kazuma kmz150 and have had a problem with cold starts not idling and excessive start attempts I thought I read a thread on drilling out the electric choke jet any truth to this.........Thanks Randy
P.S. This ATV is now 2 yrs old and on its 3rd set of tires and I have not had 1 problem with this except for the cold start problem, for the price this is great...............

I just bought a new carb from Redcat motors for $90.00 don't want to spend another $80.00 I was going to try things on my old carb to see what will work, I ride this thing on 25 mile poker runs in some pretty rough ground and I keep up with the big bikes except climbing hills I make it but it's slow going...Do you know of any performance mods to help I have tried exhaust but actually lost power I think this needs the backpressure, I am going to do a little head work and porting and try some clutch mods, Thanks Randy

rcracer,
Even if you went with the manual choke it may not solve your cold starts and idling issues. Mine came with the manual choke and I also had cold start and idling problems when I purchased my quad. You need to rejet. Try going up one or two sizes on your slow jet(Pilot Jet). You might even consider moving the e-clip down one on you jet needle. Make sure to take plug readings after each jet change.
The jets to use are Keihin
Here is the jet chart to go off of if you decide to rejet.
Your main jet will be N424-36 or the 99101-393
Your pilot jet (slow jet)N424-21
Keihin Jet List
You have options for converting the electric choke to a manual. Here are a couple of sites to look at.
Eliminate automatic choke Step 4.
Primer Kit
ELECTRIC TO MANUAL CHOKE PICTURES, PICTURES
One more thing if you would like a good reference/service manual on the GY6 engine here you go.
150 Buggy Service Manual
Good Luck.

Your local motorcycle shop will have the jets.
Here are a couple of links if you would rather order your jets online.

Sudco
For the air filter go with a K&N or UNI. I went the UNI Pod filter for mine. My quad did not come with an air box, the air filter was attached directly to the intake on the carb.
Air Filter 1
Air Filter 2
Since you bought a pipe for the quad put it back on. Install the new air filter and rejet your carb you should notice a little boost in performance. I know I did with the same mods.
Here are couple of places that sell the variator weights and other gy6 performance parts even jets
GY6 Performance Parts

Performance Parts 1
Performance Parts 2
Good Luck.

My main jet is a 103 and the slow jet I cannot find the number on it to see what size I should go to can you help, also who makes an aftermarket exhaust for a kazuma atv dingo 150, all I did was take out the baffle and spark arrestor out of the stock, but some trails I ride on require arrestors, also chain and sprocket kits any idea??? Thanks again for everything, I will keep you posted on my progress...........Randy

rcracer,
It all depends on how much air you allow to flow through the carb. I had a 111 main. With just the pipe mod I did not have to rejet. After the air filter mod I tired a 115, 118, 120 and 125, the quad still ran real lean. I was able to exchange those jets and ended up with a 135 main. Most people after doing the air filter and pipe mod end up around 120-135 on their mains. My pilot jet went from 35 to 40. As for the Jet needle my needle did not have any groves or the e-clip on it. My needle required that I add shims to make it richer. The needle had one shim on it already and I added one more to it.
As far as after market pipes go you can look at FMF they make a bolt on silencer. Here is a link for it. Pipe
Just remember to take plug readings after each mod you do. You do not want your quad running lean.
Here is a little extra info just in case.
Make sure you have a couple of new spark plugs handy to take plug readings.
White plug = Lean
Black plug = Rich
Tan to Brown = Right on
Here are your carb circuits and what they operate.
Carburetor Circuits:
Air Screw = Idle to 1/8 Throttle
The Pilot (Slow Jet) = 1/8 to 1/4 Throttle
The slide valve = 1/8 to 1/2 Throttle (Rarely ever replaced)
Jet needle = 1/4 to 3/4 Throttle
Main Jet = 3/4 to Full Throttle
Good Luck.

Well i have the cold start problem fixed but still have a high RPM miss I am looking at the CDI or coil also going to look at the magneto/stator the last time I rode it last year I went through thick mud up to the bottom of the seat and wondering if I could have excessive rust and must interfereing with high RPM trigger, what do you think, the plug is burning good and starting OK just a high speed miss....... Thanks Randy
