First off, racing ATV's or Bikes, it is ALL ABOUT WEIGHT!!!!!
<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote> we used to have a race track in lake geneva. in the 400cc class they had a bunch of 400ex and one 400cc polaris sportsmanit was kinda race what ya brought place. and the holeshot was always taken by the polaris being cvt tranny. pi$$ing off a bunch of 400ex people. he never won the race from then on but always won the holeshot.</end quote></div>
The 400cc Polaris is a 2 stroke.
If you don't know any of these things how can you even argue with these guys? And if CVT's are always faster, then why is not ONE race quad or bike a automatic? Every bike and quad in the premier MX and GNCC class is a manual shift.

Im 300 lbs and jumped all the time. no problems. my point wasent to win the race it was what shifts faster, and is faster in the woods. I know the scrambler wasent a MX racer but in a CC race or a TT, or drag its hard to beat. ask lt80 about the 12hour race where rode the mongoose 250 auto. he will let you know. but again It was the holeshot and faster shifting. I was talking about</end quote></div>
Look at the results sheet for a TT or CC race, again all manual machines!
If it was beneficial to have CVT's, the you'd see a Honda CRF450, or a YFZ 450, or any other race bread machine with a automatic tranny. And those maunal machines I mentioned will win in a holeshot against any of the lazy CVT machines you mentioned.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Quote:: "If I were to go into a race, and my frame of mind be that I hope I finish, and not that I finish first, I wouldn't call it racing"
I understand that YOU think this way but,,,
With all due respect, and I understand that everyone has their own mental "have to" in their minds, but isn't that unrealistic?
I had that thought years ago. I got hurt bad. Alex Trompkin left the nats in the minis and a year later he shows up and runs pro. He tried till he got hurt bad.
Him and I were unrealistic.
</end quote></div>
First off let me say there is nothing wrong with going to a race and going out there to have fun and feeling a sense of accomplishment. I think that is great for our sport, a great way to get out and have fun by doing something active. I am 110% behind that.
...BUT.....that kind of mentality is not that of a racer. No real racer goes out there to finish 2nd place, if a racer is going out there for a top 5 or a podium in a new class, then he is working towards winning in the near future. The goal is always to be numero uno of a racer.
My 26 cents

alright since none of you under stand what Im trying to say. Im saying it one more time.
A CVT IS GOING TO SHIFT FASTER THAN A MANUAL GEAR BOX NOT FASTER ON TOP END.
I guess my next project is going to be a another 400 polaris. than travel all around to show what they can do and make abunch of you cry

Just another thing to toss into the mix. On a cvt quad, the pipe and jetting may help, but you get the wrong clutch set up, and it's all for naught.
One reason I had to change the sprocket on the trail boss. I could be in a dry sandy creek bed at a stop. When I went to go, the spring I had in it engaged at too high an rpm. Tires would dig a hole and not pull it out. I did go back and change the spring. Changing the two helped quite a bit. Actually saw an EPI clutch kit on ebay for only 75 bucks. Normally, I'd be all over that, but I'm selling it to my brother in law, so if he wants it, he's gotta buy it.

LT80, help a dirt bike guy out [IMG][/IMG] Where is that 12 hours of ATV America race held, and when?</end quote></div>
It's ran by atvscene. Info on past and future 12 hour races is best checked out there. I don't think any 08 info is up yet.
The las 2 years it's been at the Miller farm in Cado Point TX.
My races were in Iowa and Pa. and was on halloween weekend.
