Just so you know Im not just hoping there are no problems. My Minitrail, XR75, XR200 and XL600 have been using Valvoline 10w-40 for over 15 years with no clutch or engine problems. Jetmoto's are going on 2 years next month.

I looked at the pics of your rubber axle nut covers and thought...WOW, I wonder what mine look like? I checked and mine dont have any cracks in them at all. Im guessing its because it doesnt get to cold in Ca. I then looked over all my quads and noticed the rubber covers on the brake lines ends on the handle bar are either cracked bad or gone. The rubber ends on the throttle cable adjuster is gone on the bottom only, top one looks good. Battery strap's died real early on. Other than that not to bad...Fuel line was replaced when they were new. The cables seem to be of a high quality, I just lubed all my quad cables and they work just like new again. This is on my '06 Jetmoto's, 07 250 has seen very little use and been inside. Everything on it still looks like new.

I finally got my 250 back together and running this weekend. Even with year old gas it fired up and idled nicely first try. Battery took a charge in about 1/2 hour.

 

Hi outofline, I would still be suspicious of the valve seals. After sitting all Winter without being started the seals may have dried up. To rule out compression, squirt a little oil in the cylinder through the spark plug hole. Run a compression test and see if the compression rises substantially. If it does rise quite a bit I would suspect rings and possibly the cylinder wall. If not I would think the rings are fine. The extra oil quirted in helps seal imperfections in the cylinder wall and rings when doing a compression test.

80 PSI compression does sound a little low though, but I guess that could be correct for that engine. Some specifications would be helpful for you. Hopefully Jetmoto or Raceway could get you that.

Obviously the valve seals have nothing to do with your compression, but may have everything to do with sucking in that oil.

 

All of this Rubber cracking happened before winter set in, actually these pictures were taken last summer before winter. Jetmoto replaced under warranty a few of these rubber parts last year, so it was not the cold that did this. Other then the smoker 250 there was no adverse effect I found from sitting all winter!
Both the blue and the red 250 compression was 80-83psi (on my 20+ year old tester). Looking through the intake manifold the Intake Valve was bone dry of any oil.

 

Hey outofline, another thought that crossed my mind was the crankcase ventilation tube. If it is plugged or partially plugged the crankcase pressure could force oil past your rings. Never know if one of those pesky little bugs decided to hybernate for the Winter in there. If not then possibly a broken oil ring set.
