Which chain to buy for my Jets?
#1
I think I need new chains, the Blue 150 is kind of serging as you hold it at a constant throttle (feels like warped brake rotors but the brakes are not on). So my question is which chains to buy without breaking the bank. I don't want junk but I don't really want to spend a lot as I'm really cheap my wife can vouch for that.

Outofline - Last year I bought two of these for my two JM250's. Works GREAT. Is is an "O-Ring" Chain. They have not stretched one bit in a year. I soaked them in a BIG size coffee can of 80-90 weight gear oil for a couple of hours, then let them hang vertically dripping back into the can for a while before mounting (don't do for longer than a couple of hours or you might "wash" the pre-assembly grease out of the rollers). The chains also come with a new "Master Clip" in the box. The 130 length is actually about $6.00 cheaper than the 120 link one (I guess that they sell more of them?) About $68.00 Delivered.
DID 428V Vector O Ring 130 Link Chain
Oh yes, The "secret" to getting the master link together is to assemble the chain on the ATV, inset the "pin" piece of the master link into the two chain ends, put the side plate link over the pins, "Squeeze" the two side plate together with a small C Clamp or needle nose vise grips. Leave them squeezed together for a couple of hours to "compress" the O rings. Have the little "spring clip" right there and ready with a small screw driver ready. Remove the clamp and very quickly slide the clamp on in under 60 seconds. VERY EASY !!! (drove me NUTS until by accident I discovered this trick !!! ).

I would go with the oring like NJDale suggested but thats kinda pricey. Look for a deal on a DID or RK Heavy Duty chain and you should be able to get 2 for the price of 1 oring chain.

Ya, I gotta buy 4 chains so they are going to need to be in the $30-40 range. They are 428 is that right?</end quote></div>
Yes #428 which is also a #40 if you can find a deal on that size. (1/2" pitch on a 5/16 wide sprocket)

If you are replacing the chain then the sprockets most likely need to be changed too. Nothing will wear a chain out faster than running it on trashed sprockets. You might want to check Rocky Mountain/ Primary drive. If they have sprockets that will fit there is a lot of value for your dollar with that brand.

Well my Jet 150's do not run 428's, not sure yet which it is but even a 520 does not fit. Off to buy a different size!

Wow!! I wonder what size it is? Also wonder why the 150's would have a bigger chain than the 200/250's?

Ya, I just went out and looked at the 250 and it is smaller, hard to tell but could be a 428? I have narrowed the 150 down to I believe a 525. It seems everyone local only has O rings and want $100, so I'm off to look on the net! Looking at other 150's out there they seem to be running smaller also so it's just a Jetmoto thing!

Well the chain I ended up with is a 50 HKK (Japanese made). I am still not 100% sure it's the same as a 525 or not!? It's not an O Ring and I paid $55. from a Chinese ATV place which seemed to be the going price even if I ordered it locally or on the net. It seems to be a harder chain size to find even if it's a 525, most In the 525 I found are O ring for around $100 and up. The place I bought it was the only place that stated it was a 50! So I am still not sure a 525 is the same, the rest of the dealers looked at me like I was speaking Chinese when I asked for a 50.
But the new chain solved my surging feeling it had!
