Taotao 110cc problems..
#1
Hello, I'm mew to the site and new to ATV's. So please excuse my ignorance in advance. Sorry for the long post but want to give all the info I can so I can maybe get a little help. I was gifted an (I think 2007) taotao 110D that has been sitting for 10 or 11 years under a carport. I've put on a new wiring harness, carburetor, start/stop switch, brake levers, battery, changed oil and cleaned fuel tank and put fresh gas in it.
After all that was said and done, I went to fire it up. It wouldnt crank. It would turn over but would not run. Fast forward to the next morning, decided to try it again and it cranked after 3 tries. I let it idle for about 5 minutes before turning it off (didn't test drive because no covers/seat were on and still had to secure wires) Got all the put back together and it wouldn't crank again. Tried again the next morning and again it fired up after 3 tries. Let it idle for a few minutes then took it for a test ride. Ran great. Until about 10 minutes in it just died. And now it will not start again. Same thing as before, it will turn over and over but will not fire all the way up. Every now and then it hesitates but when you go to try again itll turn over.
It's got plenty of fresh fuel, fuel is coming to the carburetor at a good rate. I'm at a loss on what to do next. Again this is my first time ever owning or working on an ATV. I'm decent with repairing things but not so great at diagnosing. Thank you in advance for any assistance!

Check for a spark, bikes can be bad to start with a weak spark. Also check compression as this also leads to them being bad to start, circa 90psi minimum. Please don't use the term "won't crank" it means totally different things to different people, so leads to endless confusion.

Try another plug, and put the old coil back on if the plug swap doesn't work. If that doesn't cure it check the wires to CDI. One from trigger coil should produce 0.2v min when engine is spun on starter, exciter coil should produce a lot more volts, black/white kill wire should be earthed with ignition switch one way and open circuit with switch the other. Earth wire(s) must be properly earthed. If all those are good, swap the CDI back for the original one. Intermittent faults are the worst, as the fault may go off and you think you have cured it, then it comes back on.

Ok! So I finally got it running. Consistently! Turns out the new stator I had was the problem. Put the old one back on and BOOM fired right up! Awesome right? I thought so too. Until after riding for about 15-20 minutes. It died. No biggie, I assumed that the fuel line come off again (it did it after I first got it running) Go to check it out, and nope. Its smoking white smoke. Pretty bad. From the cylinder head. Checked the oil and as soon as I took the dipstick out, plenty of smoke continously came rolling out.
Does this sound like I need to replace cylinder head. Pistons ect??
