110cc seems maxed out at low speed. 16mph max...

I just bought and rebuilt two mini quads and while one is down for frame repair the other is good... or should be. Brand new 110 put into it and it runs great. Except it cant get over 16mph and sounds like the engine is at full power. I can power brake it no problem so it has torque. It is quick on take off and it doesnt pop and sputter so no worries with lack of fuel. But even at full throttle it hits 16mph and sounds like its giving all its got. From what i have read it should be able to hit 30mph if not more and i stepped up the drive sprocket to 14t and that got me to the 16mph from the 12t/13mph. New chain, bearings, engine, wiring... what am i missing here?

Most 110cc bikes have Honda Cub clone engines, but there are several different transmissions used in them. Is it a full auto or should it have gears? I must admit the auto versions are a complete mystery to me, no idea how they work, the manual gearboxes are similar to those fitted to bigger Honda manual quads, so fairly conventional.

Have not broken case on engine other than stator cover so not messed with clutch. Tires are the stock 6in and original gear was much smaller and would only hit 13mph. Stepped up and can only hit 16mph. May crack case to check clutch and fly wheel but with plenty of torque and low end speed i cant imagine i will find much unless its somehow hitting the limit on the transmission and thats possibly why it seems maxed out at half speed?

you don't need to crack the case to adjust the clutch.. their is a adjustment on the outside of the case..
Only other thing i could think of is a faulty carb and its just not giving enough juice at higher speeds. When i had bad fuel and a gummed up carb it would not go fast but it showed sign's of issues at low speeds of a fuel issue.. So with yours running good but no speed its a gamble

Full auto only has a centrifugal clutch as there is no foot pedal to lift a multiplate and nothing for a multiplate to do anyway, so no adjuster. As I wrote, those full auto E22 engines are a bit of a mystery. I actually wonder if they are, like the Suzuki LT50, single speed. I note the on-line vendors state, performance will be down if used to replace a foot change engine. OP hasn't actually said if it is a Honda clone engine, or GY6, or Minarelli.

Adjustment the same way? Bury screw then back off until tension?
