Default Tao tao 125 starting issue

I got a 2017 tao tao 125 and it won't start. I put a new carb on, New plug, fresh gas and it will crank, try to start, pop and some. Smoke will. Come out of the muffler and that it.. Any ideas what I can try?

Check the piston is at TDC when the flywheel TDC mark says it is. Check the valve timing mark agrees too. Don't forget this occurs once every two revs of flywheel. Check valve clearances are OK when these marks are lined up. If all is well, check compression, should be above 90psi.

Adjusted the valves and have zero compression. Do you you think replacing the head and all gaskets will help? Also, do I need to pull the entire motor to just replace the head and gaskets?

If you're going to replace the entire head and gaskets you may as well do the piston and rings while it's apart for only a few dollars more. You may be able to remove the top end while it's still in the frame, but it will be much easier if you take the extra time to remove it.

Take the top end apart and inspect everything. Why put a new head on if the old one is fine? Far more likely to be worn or scored piston and bore. In this case I usually go for a rebore, but Chinese piston and cylinder kits are so cheap it is probably easier and cheaper than the rebore and oversize piston.
