Voltage drop at starter solenoid
#1
I replace the entire wiring on my 70cc atv with this:
Everything was working fine but i wanted to then use the controls that came with the atv because they are integrated in the hand brake.
While i was wiring the starter switch i popped a fuse, replaced the fuse and put it all back together and now the starter button doesnt work.
When i put a volt meter on the 2 leads that go from the starter button to the starter solenoid and i press the start button, i get 12+ volts on the multimeter.
When I connect the solenoid and hit the button the voltage drops to around 4 volts.
What else could I have possible blown when i was re wiring the switch?

Seems like you have a flat battery or one of the battery leads is loose, this includes earths. Could just be the ign switch to start button, to solenoid circuit, or brake light circuit, if that is wired into the starter circuit. Another possibility, starter or engine seized.

It’s just weird because it was working fine before the fuse popped.

Well after ripping apart the brand new harness to isolate the starter circuit, i wont up tracing it back to the glass fuse that come off the battery that goes to the small gauge wiring.
The fuse did not look blown, but once I removed it and bypassed it with a screw driver, everything started working.
I ordered a blade fuse holder to replace the crappy fuse.
