I'm planning on heading up saturday with the wife, spending the day in kittery and portsmouth- then the ride / bbq on sunday-

 

No. It's a little tempting but this large scale group stuff usually just ends up pissing me off

This is not a group ride, though there will be people there willing to lead groups.
We do have some black diamond trails for those that want something a little more challenging.
We also have a new woods single track trail that's a nice challenge.

I'm going to be away with my wife on our 25th anniversarry. Not sure how'd she take this.

 

Simple solution. Explain to her this is a once in a lifetime event. The anniversary? You can get a divorce, remarry and in 25 years there ya go.

The food alone sounds like a great time. Just a tad bit outta my range.
