300ex tires and gearing
i was getting alot of bs about this on the honda forum cause obviously"amatures talk speed and pros talk acceleration and handling"so please dont give me any of that crap.Sooo i own a 300ex w/ 20in back tires(stock 22in rears)and a 14t c/s sprocket(stock 13t)and i want to keep the 20inchers cause they look alot better than any 22in baloon tire so i was going to move up the front sprocket to a 15t wich is 2 teeth bigger than stock will i still have a bit of low-end torque cause the 20's helped it out tremendously(or however you spell it)i just need about 5mph more. Will the 15tooth give me this extra 5mph and let me keep a little bit of lowend torque that i got with the 20in back tires?thanks.

Is there enough room for a 15 tooth? a 14 tooth seems farely snug. Anyways, I may have to agree with some of the guys against the 15 tooth sprocket. Although you may gain your 5mph, it will take a while to get there, and if you are racing, then you will lose, unless you have about a mile to work with. If you climb many or any hills, I would hang with the 14. I put 20in. Turf Tamers on my wifes 300ex and kept the 13 tooth, and it still goes really fast. It was keeping up well with my LT250 and my friends Banshee on some dirt roads. I also rode it in Glamis sand dunes when my top end gasket blew on my LT250, and it hung tight with Some high end Rails. Looking at your mods list, you quad is fairly comparable to my wifes. The only difference seems to be that I run a K&N filter with no lid. I would like to try a 14 tooth sprocket, because the 300ex has gobs of low end grunt.
Bottom line, for only about $15 per sprocket, you really can't lose to experiment, although you may have to get a different chain if the current isn't long enough for a 15 tooth.
