Default Oil Problems

I just changed the oil in my King Quad and the oil was chocolate brown and very thin. The King takes 3.8 quarts of oil but at least 4.5 quarts of fluid came out when I dropped the oil. Any ideas what could be causing this? The last oil change was about a year ago. The machine has only had 150 or so miles on it in that year. The engine ran fine, no issues. There are no signs of leakage on the motor or transmission. I park it in the same place in the garage and there are not any spots on the floor.

Suggestions?

Did the oil seem to have emulsified water in it? If it does, it will look like chocolate milk, and is very bad for bearings. Did you have it in any amount of water when it was ridden? It could also be fuel leaking through the carb into the engine, it's a good idea to keep the fuel shut off when you're not riding the quad, especially when hauling it anywhere.

The oil did look like chocolate milk. I have not had my King in water since last may. It has been relagated to plowing my driveway since then. I don't think I have had it out of second gear in 8 months.
The King Quad does not have a fuel shut off. The switch below the tank only has a regular mode and a reserve mode so I can't just shut off the fuel and run the engine until the line is empty. I kept the old oil, it does not smell gassy.
