This weekend we managed to bend the rear axle on my friend's '99 Honda 300 4x4. We first considered replacing it with another stock unit, however, we would like to persue any aftermarket options that may be available.

Any and all replies/comments would be greatly appreciated

How did you bend the axle? As for aftermarket axles i am not sure if there are ones for the honda 300 4x4.

This is a good story here, and it was a cheap way out as well. It probably isn't the best answer to your question though. When I was about 16, we had our 89 honda 300 2wd for about 6 months. I left it parked outside the house one day on a small incline above the driveway. Anyone familiar with hondas knows the little rubber guard that covers the parking brake lever and how at times, this can get pinched in between the brake lever that holds it in park. Well, this must have happened when I sat the brake, because 20 minutes later, a girl knocked on the door and informed me that she had just seen my four wheeler rolling down the hill as she was walking down the road. I went out to find a set of tire tracks in the grass leading down the front yard. I followed the path of the quad through the ditch, across the paved road, down a fairly steep hill, up to a small tree (2" diameter) that had bark and leaves shredded off it. This must have been where the quad left its feet. 15 yards down into another ditch sat the 300 upside down. I flipped it over, started it, and started to drive back up the hill when I noticed that it was wobbling bad in the rear. I looked back to see that the axle was bent big time on the left side. I still rode it back out and to the house though it was a freaky trip. We took it to a mechanic who straighted it out on a hydraulic press. He did a good job I guess cause we haven't had a problem with it since then and that was about 9-10 years ago. My old man was too tight to buy a new axle, so he just opted for a quick fix. It worked.

s m porter, why not check with Dura Blue at800-854-9134. I think they have a web site also. they make three grades of axles, two of which have lifetime guarantees against bending,& one which is supposed to be 2 1/2 times stronger that stock. prices range from $289
