why does everyone seem to run a 2 inch wider tire on rear than front? I was wondering if anyone runs the same size front and rear so you can rotate them and get better wear? I think 10 inch wide mudlights would be fine on the rear as well as the fronts what do you think?

Probably clearance probs up front. Also it becomes a pain after a while turning bars w/big rubber up front, a little more resistance than most prefer

Don't know for sure but my guess would be that you'd assume that a wider tire in the rear would get more traction/grip the surface more letting you hook up instead of spinning the rubber. I like the idea of being able to rotate your atv tires but If I am correct I believe the front and rear rims are different widths/backspaces. I am ordering the 27" mudlites on ITP type 6 wheels I hope on thursday or friday, I am getting the 9's on the front and the 12's in the rear.

the added width=better traction. i have seen people go with 10's all around. as far as rotation, you could only rotate the front and back tires, not the rims, but i think that is what you meant.

I run 10 inchers all around and it works great. I don't have any clearance problems. The only reason I think people would go smaller in the front is lack of power to turn them, otherwise I like the same size all around. For traction, I could be wrong, but I don't think 2 inches wider in the back helps much.

I was talking about rotating them of the front wheels and put them on the rear and vise versa/ Running the c-series wheels clearence is not an issue plenty of room to swing em and not hit the winch. I was just wondering if any one does it and how it works? Wolverine, you say it works ok so I might give it a try. My rear 589's should be replaced but the fronts are still close to new so if they were the same size I could rotate those but there not so oh well!I might just buy 2 new rear and stick with them but I would like to try a new tire also! Thanks for the input!

Just a thought, Im only guessing. But could it be that the front tires make a small rut and allows the rear wheels to still grab hold on the sides of the small rut for increased traction when moving forward. Just a thought, maybe im showing my stupidity.

If you have a solid rear axle the rear will have a different offset than the front so rotating is not an option. Another thing to look at usually with a wide rear tire and narrow front tire the width is equal front and back so by putting the same size tire on all four you may be making your front wider than your back.

The reason isnt because the machine cant turn them (as in have the power to rotate) but because a skinnier front tire dramatically shortens turning radius and effort. The downside is that skinnier fronts like to nose dive right into the mud instead of ride on it like a wider tire.

Personally I went with 10" wide fronts and 12" wide rears.
