bi-claws & tri-claws??

can any one tell me why the manufacure recomands the bi's on the front and tri-claws on the back? im thinking of just buying all 27x12x12 tri-claws for my 1999 450s

I think they recommend the Bi-Claws for the front because they are a smaller tire (width) and offer less traction. On all new 4x4's they have an IFS system that is a little more suseptable (spelling?) to damage due to over excessive traction by the front tires. You say you're thinking of going 27x12x12 Tri-Claw all the way. By this I assume you are a mud addict such as myself. I have 27x12x12 Vamps on my 450S and love the traction and flotation. Although I will sell them if you're interested because I'm going to purchase 28" Vamps as soon as they become available again. If you like the mud then go with at least 27x12x12 whatever you go with.

thanks for the offer on the tire but i dont want the same kinda tire that my buddys have im trying it find something diffrent. its not mutch fun when every one has the same thing, and if these tri's work better than ill be the king for a little while.lolol what kinda air pressure do you use, i heard you say something about flotaion?? i have the 26x12x12 bi claws all the way now and i run about 25 to 30 psi and it floats great

Hey mudman! I run about 15 psi in each wheel. I'm serious though when it gets in the soupy, watery stuff you can feel it bob up and down trying to find traction. Don't get me wrong for wanting to sell them. They are great tires, but I want to try the 28" with the 3" lugs because all of my riding is in the mud. If you look at the Hot Setup dept. in the Jan 2000 DW Mag. , that is the kind of riding I do exclsively! Good luck with the Tri-Claws though. I'm gonna try to win a set on the mudtires.com site though!

ya we have a pretty good crowd on fri nights that go looking for the bigest and badest hole and take turns trying..lol its a lot of fun
im in houston, tx riding in the river bottoms

Swampmonster--you are going to put some 28" Vampires on your 450 (for sure), or you want to (still considering it)? If you do, I want to see what you think. Have you seen one up close? The lugs are 2" and the tire is just over 40 pounds and $120-135 a piece.

Hey Doc!

Yeah they are going on the 450! The X-mas bonus is good this year and alot of other goodies are going on it also. I'm ordering the ITP Aluminum wheels along with the 28" Vamps. I'll probably end up keeping the 27" for the time being in case I'm totally disgusted with the performance of the 28" (I doubt it!!!).

When I was buying my vampires, people said, "them things don't back up at all." Well, they do don't they? I saw a friend (a professional bullfighter) get run over by a 450 with 27" vamps. He and his nephew had just roped a calf and while nephy "had the wheel", his uncle had given some kind of ecclectic command to apply some degree of throttle. Nephy apparently took that to mean 100% and ran smooth over uncle Donny. It left a mark, well several. I ask him what it felt like. He said it was not as bad as a bull hooking you, but more like a rubber buzzsaw. You may want to put that red and white alternating tape near the fenders and put some lettering close by to "keep hands, feet and vital parts clear"!

TxDoc2,

Interco says they have 2" gripes but thy are realy between 2.5" and 3". An on a wheel they weight in at about 60 LBS each.

Arctic Cat 500, Thats what the guys at Highlifter said.

I understand about the wheel + tire weight. I was talking about just the tire itself. Have you seen the tire in person? The one I actually saw and looked at was not mounted and had a measured tread depth of exactly 2". I wonder what the ITP aluminum billet wheels weigh apiece? May have to put helium in the things!
