Slipping clutch?
#1
I recently acquired a 2000 Yamaha Warrior in pretty good condition except there is a problem with the clutch. It doesn't engage until the very last few mm of the clutch lever travel, and if you really hammer on the throttle, it slips. The cable is adjusted as far as it will go at both adjustment points, so I am pretty sure I will have to work on the clutch itself. So my question is this: When rebuilding a clutch in this situation will i only need to replace the friction plates (which are cheap) or is there going to be more to it? If you guys need more information to correctly diagnose my problem what should I look for? I have a Clymer manual for it and I'm pretty confident working on it but any advice for working on clutches would be appreciated. Thanks for your help

I have the same problem currently, just happened today in fact. However it only started after I changed the oil. I put in 10W40 but the owners manual called for 10W30, which is a possibility. Before changing the oil, half to near full throttle in 4th through 6th gears hit hard and there was no slippage. It may be a coincidence that hides the real problem but im going to try changing back to 10W30 even though I'm not going to get my hopes up. If it works, its cheaper than clutch work. I also know for a fact my Warrior has not been abused. Ive had it for about a year and a half to two years and ride a lot with the former owner who took excellent care of it which i continue to do.

yea ive used regular SJ approved motor oil in my z400 since it was brand new. im just now starting to have clutch slippige problems. my z calls for SF/SJ and I didnt realize that it would mess up the clutch. if i start using the right oil will it fix itself or do you think its too late and i should get new clutch plates. if so ive read about EBC and another racing clutch that isnt coming to mind rite now. From what i gather they will wear faster than stock. But i also saw some tusk ones for a good price. and on ebay there is a couple that are suppost to b built to oem standards just heavier duty. both are like 90 with springs and tusk is 45. what do you guys think
