I own a 99 Banshee and would like to make the stance wider on the front and rear. Will if damage anything if I reverse the front and rear rims to widen it out??

I've heard of this done before. It should work, just check for valve stem clearence first. another option is wheelspacers.

He said it right.. Watch the valve stems.. I watched a friend of mine swap his rear tires around so that the new wider tires would fit on original rims. No one even thought about the valve stems .. As soon as it moved the rear hubs did a nice job of shearing them off. DOH!

I've flipped the stock rims on my Warrior over, front and rear, and yes you need to redrill and located the front valve stem. You do gain almost 4" width up front, and you may start replacing tie-rods more often as they get bent more easy as you hit a log or rock with the additional leverage an offset rim gives you.

Thanks for some input. I have reversed the rear rims without any problems but the front one won't work because of the valve stems. Thanks for mentioning that! It would have ripped them right off.

Hey Heapster, you say that you relocated the valve stem to the other side? How did you fill in the hole that it left? Where did you get the part to fill the old valve stem hole?

chadbanshee, all you have to do is turn the valve stem inside out. Then drill a hole in the other side of the wheel and put a new valve stem in.

Thats a good idea Banshee_16. I didn't even think about that. Do I have to use particular stems for atv rims or just use car type ones? This is a dumb question, but do I need to take the tire completely off the rim or just break the bead and push down the sidewall? Do I need a "bead breaker" to do this?
Thanks,
Chad

Why don't you just get some Aluminum body filler (Aluma-Fill, I think anyway) and since the stock Banshee wheels are aluminum go and stick some of the filler in the hole real good and let it dry. My dad has used that stuff to fill some holes in our 68 Bronco where the chrome moulding was on the body and man does that stuff get hard. It's just like aluminum and I think you can get it at Advance Auto or Pep Boys but I'm not sure. Oh and you don't have to worry about the rubber valve stem detereorating and have a spot where your air leaks out. Put a permanent fix on that hole.

I can't see how you can mount the tire with the valve stem sticking inward inside the rim. How do you clear the bead.

On my flipped front rims I did this:

a)find a local cheap tire shop ($5 a tire removed/mounted)pull the tire off.

Take rim home and put rounded cap head bolt through rim and nut is on inside. Cut nut in half with cut-off wheel and JB weld remaining 1/8" nut to fare out the radius and make leak proof.

Take rims back to store and mount up new tires. (23" XCT's for the Wicked Warrior with 22" rear XCTS too. Since the rim flip over I've gone through 2 outer ball joints and a tie rod, but the quad does corner much better. "course the dual rates and steering stabilizer help too. <grins>
