Default Chains on the front end

Anyone have any experience running chains on the front end of 4X ATV? The front was always the end of choice for the first set of chains on a jeep unless you were pointed down hill. Is the front differential/axles/driveline strong enough to support the additional strain, etc.? Good idea/bad idea? Thanks!

For the past 3 years of snowplowing, I have used chains on all 4 tires. Works great with no problems.

IdahoVinnie, thanks for the reply! Do you make up your own chains or are they available somewhere. I have seen them for the wider back tires but not for the 8" fronts.

I had some slightly used automotive tire chains that I adapted for use on my atv. I wanted more cross chains than what was made for atvs.

BTW, make sure that the chains have the "V" bars on them.

I agree with cutting down the car chains and doubling up on the cross links. The "V" ice bars help a lot as well. Another trick I have learned is to use the heavy truck tarp bungees on both the inside and outside of the tire to hold the chain tight. Be sure to check clearance so you dont hang up on anything.
