I want to get mud tires for my Honda 300 4x4, but i dont have the money to buy new rims. What are the best tires for around $65? I was thinking about getting Bear Claw or Mud Sharks. The mudsharks are a lot cheaper, but i like the Bear Claws better. Any better suggestions?

The sizes are:

front 23x8-11
rear 24x9-11

I want to make my ATV into an all all out mudder. I will put snorkels on it to so I dont drown it out.

I bought Mud Sharks for my Honda 4X4 quad a few weeks ago. So far I love them. They make quite a difference in where I can go, and the machine is unbelievably easy to handle vs. before. I put a pin hole in one tire after riding through an area that had been bush-hogged. I plugged the hole and then put Victor tire sealant in all four tires. For a set a set of 4 Mudsharks, I paid (including shipping) $226 from Treadepot.com. Ordered them on Monday; they arrived on Thursday. If you need any other info, just let me know.

Trust me, don't go with Mud Sharks. My uncle has them on his 300. The rears are ok, they have about a 5/8" tread depth, But the fronts are pathetic. The fronts have lugs MAYBE 1/4" high. They are BARELY a step above Dune slicks(fronts for sand dragsters).

If you want the best mud tire for less than $65 each go with Sur Traks or TSLs.

I have another uncle who has a 300 with 25x9x11 TSLs all around and when you hit 2nd gear in the mud and nail it, it just seems to lift you up right out of the mud and shoot you forward. I love those tires on a 300 class bike.

Check out Highlifter and some other sources on tires and I think you may change your mind on the Mud Sharks. They seem like they would be good tires especially with 1" lugs but, how well will they clean in the thick stuff? Many guys on the 300 and larger bikes that like to play in the mud including myself are running Super Swapers, Vamps, Outlaws, 589's and the Bi-Claw/Tri-Claw set up. Forget the 589 though, they do not make it to fit an 11" rim.

You may also want to consider increasing 1 size in the height and width. For example 24x9x11 front and 25x9.5x11 or 25x10x11 in the rear. Your bike will perform better, look better and get a slight increase in ground clearance. Hope this helps.

You are limited with the stock rims, but these are a few that I can remember that make the correct sizes. You can go with Vampires, they have the right sizes I think. Remember to go an inch smaller on the front. Bear Claws will fit. I think Bi Claws will fit if you get a 26" and a 25". And I'm sure there are a few more in the 25" 24" range.

Mud Bugs are not available in the right rim size, nor are Titan 589's. I don't know about the good years. Check out Interco's website and Mudtires.com for some specs on sizes for those. Or check out Highlifter and Cawood Tire, along with National tire and Wheel (for Vampire sizes).
