Default Need Help With Grizzly Slipping

All of sudden my 06 grizzly started slipping when the transmission shifts to the higher gear. This happens in either range. All the fuids have been regularly checked and changed.

Can anyone give a suggestion. Is something out of adjustment or is a clutch bad?

start troubleshooting by measuring the width of the belt

yamaha must publish the minimum belt width. if it is not in your manual, call a dealer and ask. I recommend a Yamaha shop manual. There are a few other things that can cause what you are talking about, but that is where I would start. The belt will slip if it is thin. Make sure your buttons and rollers look OK while you're in there. The clutches (any of the three (wet, primary, or secondary) can cause what you are talking about, but I wouldn't suspect them yet.

it's more than just checking the belt width. look for glazing and other damage, but that is a good place to start. Check the condition of the sheaves and look for contamination as well. Good luck. I just don't suspect you would have clutch trouble unless you have a ton of miles on it.

also did you go through any water recently? If so drain the clutch housing of water. And then pull the cover if the problem doesnt fix itself and check your belt width and also the grease in the primary clutch pack to see if it has slung out.

careful with that grease recommendation. the only lube I would ever put on a CVT clutch is a dry film, and only sparingly on key contact points (but even that can change your shift characteristics)

actually on the yamaha cvt clutch where the rollers are does have what yamaha affectionatly calls grizz-grease. I have had to repack mine after I slung all the grease out of the rollers, which caused slipping at top speed.

really. that's interesting. the rollers aren't bushed? do you lube the roller to pin or roller to spider (or sheave)? I can see how too much grease could cause a problem!
