Default 2013 Polaris Sportsman 400

Bought a new 2013 Polaris Sportsman n it only has 20 hours on it and it messed up! The dealership is saying its the drivebelt n that's not under warranty! Has anybody had this problem? Thanks for whatever advice I can get?

If you're going slow or working hard in high gear it can burn up the belt. In those situations you need to use low gear.

Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it! But I've only been poking around the house cause they said the break in period is 10 hours n it only has 20 hours n I've still been taking it easy just n case!

If your only "under heavy load" while going slow you need Low range.

I ride all the time slow without pulling or pushing or easy trail riding and stay in high range. I have change my belt every 2000 miles and the old belt still looked good.

The 2010 Sportsman 400H.O did not even have a low range.

Get them to put a belt in it if its already apart and if it happens again there is another problem.

I could not screw up a belt in 20 hrs with out putting a real effort into it.

I had a chart on the wall at the shop that showed 9 different ways a belt could be bad or damaged. 7 were operator error and only 2 cases would Polaris even consider replacement at no charge! One was belt separation on the top,the other was if any cogs on the belt sheared off. I tried to warranty a few that I thought were valid defects and we had to eat the cost of the belts on several they wouldn't take! Polaris is a long way now from the lifetime warranty that they offered for a short while! Cost them too much money I guess. OPT
