IRS Sport quad
#1
It was rainy yesterday, so I went out to Wal-mart with the wife shopping. I wandered around while she was trying stuff on. I noticed some kids looking at some of the magazines there, and when they left, I noticed one on the floor. I picked it up, and noticed it was an ATV mag of some sort. What really got my attention was the page it happened to have fallen open on. It had some pictures of a chain-drive IRS suspension system on a prototype sport quad. It either had a jack shaft or sprockets coming off both sides of the tranny housing, and a chain driving each rear wheel, with each rear wheel moving independantly of each other. What a novel, simple idea to get IRS, long travel suspension, and light weight. My wife hollerd before I could notice anything more (who made it, if it was hand-built, or done by a manufacturer, or much else).
I suppose it is old news to all of you, but it was new to me, so I thought I would pass it on.

magazine you glanced at would be the june 2001 issue of 4-wheel atv action and the page you glanced at would be page 57! the quad was made by Dinli! it is a independant rear suspension but i is like a swingarm with no bearing carrier. it has an axle with the middle cut out and each wheel is independantly driven. it also has one hydrolic disc for each wheel! it looks very interesting and could be the wave of the future!

I just wonder if someone could get it to work as well or better than the current setup of the single rear shock, swingarm, bearing carrier, and full axle? I guess we might end up seeing something like what Farmr123 mentioned in the future. Heck, who knows? We'll see.
P.S.- Was it just me, or did the picture in Dirt Wheels make the Dinli quad look like it had a rear end made of plastic? (maybe a dumb question. if so, sorry.)
