I was wondering being very new to all this good stuff. How important is it to keep the output seals in perfect condition on utilty quads. My paticular quad is barely broken in (290 miles-all off road) and this is the first issue on it. The leak is tiny, (just enough to leak oil to wet dust into place, not a single drop has run though) this rig is rarely going to see submersion(BTW the oil is fine inside). Would it be rated as 1. imperitive, 2. urgent, 3. worthwhile, 4. wait for it to start leaking bad. 5 Aw forget about it'. Wanting to know for on a car it'd be a 4, but on a quad maybe more important.

 

I would be interested to know if you are using synthetic oil in the differential. One of the things I uncovered while looking into the use of synthetic oil is the tendacy for it to leak around oil seals.

 

It's the Honda factory OEM oil, whatever they may have used in there, but I doubt it's synthetic.

edit added: I'm going to take the front end apart this afternoon to check for a possible obstuction, such as a piece of grass winding in the area, pushing on the seal. The dealer said that out of thirty or so of the same line of bikes sold I've got the first one with a leak problem there, so I'll know soon wheather it's plain faulty or an obstruction problem.
