The wheels of my wolverine are scratched pretty bad. Several places have paint rubbed off on them. I have done some painting with a paint gun before, so I have a little experiance. I am just wondering if anyone has painted their wheels before...and what is the best type of paint to use. Also, what preparation needs to be done (sanding to bare metal? Primer coating?) Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. Much appreciated. I would like to leave the tires on it (masking them off). Will the paint thinner hurt my tires?

You can strip the "OLD PAINT" off any way you like- sand blasting, bead blasting, or even GOOD 'OLE sandpaper. But when it comes time to paint, I wouldnt use spray paint....
If it was me, I would strip the old paint, clean them w/ paint thinner, then apply a good coat of primer. The paint I would use is a good heavy duty Industrial Type paint (like on H.D. Equipment, or Farm Equipment), and spray it on just like automotive paint...

Just my $.02

I've got the best solution and its the easiest. Get some POR-15. www.por15.com. You can get it at a local auto parts/speed shop. Just make sure you dont have any grease or oil on the rims or any loose rust. Then just paint the stuff on. Once dry, you cant get it off unless you grind it. Dont get it on your hands. You can spray it but no need to. Its self leveling so you wont see and brush marks when dry. It comes in all colors incuding clear. Just buy a pint because it goes a long way. Pour some into a cup or something and seal up the container and dont pour any unused por15 back into the can. It will activate and dry it up. Good luck.
