Vampires or Tri Claws?
#1
I am trying to decide on 27" Claws or Vamps. I am still quite aways from needing new tires, but I would like to get some input on which would be better for my bike. Ok I have a 98 AC 454 with plenty of power to pull these tires and I do not need a lifter for 27's. I ride mainly mountains and occasional mud. Which ones ride better and give better traction.(mud, snow, and all other terrain). I just want some input here. Any help is appreciated.

i have vampires and ride in south la in lots of mud and wooded trails. i love mine . they are tough as nails. the traction is unreal. i don't find that they ride rough on hard packed ground like i have heard. hope this helps you

Thanks a lot. I wish I could get some more input. I guess this is probably an old topic so I can understand it. Well what you described is what I pretty much do so they may be what I get. By the way how do they steer?

I do alot of trail riding along with mud, I chose Maxxis MUDBUGS. They ride really good on the hard pack, where good, and have awsome traction in the mud/snow. For a al-around tire they are aggressive, but with the other two choices.. maybe they are what U are looking for????
Another plus is they are extremely light-weight for a 6ply tire (26lbs for a 27x12x12)
Just another choice
You can see what they look like at the link below

I ran some 27" Tri-claws on my AC 400 4x4. I ran into some problems with fender clearance and my bike did not pull the tires very well. I replaced the claws with 25" vampires. As far as mud they seem to pull about the same but I did have more ground clearance with the 27" tires. I would imagine that a 27" vampire would give you about the same amount of ground clearance. I have rode a AC 454 4x4 and noticed that there is a lot more low end torque that the 400. That was the problem area I had the most, in the worst mud holes, I could barely spin the 27' tires over and that is why I went back to the 25" tires. As far as snow, don't know, doesn't snow much in Louisiana. Most of the people I ride with have one of these two tires. Anyone you talk will tell you that they would not trade their tire for the other.
