Tires choice for TRX300 4x4
#1
I just got a '95 Honda 300 4x4 and I really need to replace the tires. The stock sizes are 24x9x11 (rear) and 23x8x11 (front). I ride trails and do not plan to do major mudding with it, but I do get in some mud from time to time and I also plan to plow some driveways with it this winter so I want to have a fairly deep tread depth. My question is how large of a tire can I use without turning this thing into a pooch? The Big Wheel kits take it up to 26x12x12 (rear) and 25x1012 (front) so I'm guessing (hoping?) that the 300cc will pull them ok. I will not be replacing my stock rims and I want to stay with a minimum of 4-ply rating if possible. Mud Bugs (6 ply) are now available in 26x12x11 and 25x10x11 and I can get a set of them for about $320 or so (including shipping). I've also looked at the TrailBreaker AWD's (only 3-ply, though) and can get a set for about $250 shipped, though both tire sizes are only 9.5 wide. I hesitate to spend the extra $70 for the Mud Bugs unless I know that my machine will still have the power I need for deer hunting, plowing, etc... Has anyone here tried a similar scenario?
Thanks,
Jerms

YOU DEFINATLEY DONT NEED THE BIGGER TIRES!!!!!!the mud bugs are the worst trail riding tires. They are only good for mud.You probably dont need the lift kit.I would stick with the stock and get some nice kenda bearclaws or some goodyear tires.you could use the lifter for some extra ground clearence but when it gets deep you tires ,or he** any other tires, will most likely get stuck any way.Instead of the lift kit you should spend your money on a very, very large winch or a warn snowplow or something you`ll use.

Yeah, I think I've already decided not to go any larger than 25/24 anyway, due to the likely power loss. I'm planning on getting the Trailbreaker AWD's in 25x9.5x11 and 24x9x11. It'll give me just a tad more clearance but hopefully without much power loss. I really like the tread pattern of the AWD's and I think this will be a pretty decent compromise since it should also give a fairly smooth ride on hard pack yet there's some meat for the mud on occasion. Does anyone know what the tread depth is on those?
Last night I was at the local Farm & Fleet store and they had their Superwinch ATV2000's on sale for $149 so I picked one up. That's about the cheapest I've ever seen them anywhere and I know I'll probably need one sooner or later (it really would have been handy 3 nights ago when my friend buried his 325 Magnum). With the money saved on the cheaper AWD's I'm also going to pick up a set of OxLite CV guards. Does anyone out there have a full length skid plate for a 300 4x4 and a winch mount that they'd sell for a decent price?
