What mud tires would you suggest for a scrambler 400 2x4 that is piped and clutched. I want a tire that self cleans well and has a somewhat smooth ride on hard pack.

I have Maxxis Sur Tracs on my Trail Boss 325 and they do great in the mud. They also do well on hard pack and are great hillclimbers too. I think the ride is similar to that of the stock tires. Now these tires are only 2 ply, but I have been on several poker runs and ride pretty much every weekend and no problems what so ever. I have probably 500 miles on them and they still look brand new. Hope this helps you out.

Archerr thanks for the reply.

How do the sur tracs slide in the corners?

And how is there forward traction on loose gravel?

I can get my machine sideways with little effort, they slide nice in corners. Now for the gravel issue, they hook up in gravel well, but beware for the person riding behind you because these tires really toss the stones. One of my riding buddies nicknamed me rock chucker because of these tires. All in all I think the Sur Tracs are a great all around tire. They get great traction in almost all situations, they are very durable for a two ply tire and they are only 3 pounds heavier than the stockers. Hope this helps you out.

The Bearclaws are a good trail/mud tire. They self clean well xcept for thick packy mud. They have a very similar lug design as the sur tracks just more aggresive. I can slide the back of my 250 honda around all day with them. And like the sur tracks they trow rocks like crazy
