Default engine temp

Im Installing a thermometer on my quad so I can monitor Engine temp when racing up Sand Mountain. Anyone know what temp a 2 stroke motor should run. It is a Honda Cr500 motor but im sure most two strokes should run close to the same temp. Any info would be great
thanks

I do heating and a/c work so I got it through one of our suppliers. Johnstone supply if you have any of those in your area. It is a digital solar powered thermometer and has a sensor to strap wherever you want to get the best reading

I believe the eng temp for 2 stroke should be around 1000 1200 degrees. The melting point is around 1350 degrees.

I used to have EGT on my banshee pipes and I was running around 1200 and make sure it never got any higher 1300 at all.

Also when you do that make sure do the plug check so you know what the plug like at certain temp.

here another response. I misread the first note......

The engine temp should be around 180-190 degree..... Somewhere around there....

Thought you were talking about the EGT gauge..... Sorry

Every 1lb of radiator cap pressure raises the boiling point 3 degrees (at sea level and using water only.)

So with a 13 lb cap, straight water and perfect conditions it should boil at 251 deg. Adding coolant up to 50% will raise the boiling point some....Say 260.

Personally I would start watching the guage at 220 degrees and turn downhill at 230 to cool things off.

Let us/me know what the operating temp was on the big hills. I'm curious.
